About Searsport

Historic Stockton Springs is located near some of the most unique attractions in the U.S. .
Fort Knox, the original, is located just 6 miles E. - it took 20 years to build - and a shot was never fired. Beautiful grounds, fascinating exploring. There also is the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory - the Observatory is the tallest in the Western Hemisphere and on a clear day you can see forever.
Sears Island about 6 miles W.- the largest uninhabited island on the East Coast. Some 940 acres to explore - accessed by a causeway. Over 5 miles of shoreline to hike at low tide for seashell/glass hunting - birding - clamming - swimming etc. Its beautiful.
While in Searsport, visit the Penoscot Marine Museum - the oldest marine museum in Maine - with 12 buildings on its beautiful campus - most on the historic register. Its fun, its educational and its beautiful
Fort Point State Park and the remains of Fort Pownall in our own town - has a most unique lighthouse that caused a ruckos in Congress when first requested to be built - #1 because it is the furthest inland lighthouse in the U.S. - an #2 - due to its construction. It is almost square on the outside - but is round on the inside.
We aren't far from Acadia National Park on Mt. Desert Island and Schoodic Point. It is an amazingly beautiful park, particularly at Schoodic Point and Isle Au Haut. - Raw nature at its most beautiful.
Great restaurants - trails, small unique shops , studios and galleries and NO malls, at least not in our very large county. Stockton Springs is located between Belfast & Bucksport on Upper Penobscot Bay, considered one of the top 10 sailing bays in the world.
BUT if you really MUST have malls and casinos we are about 35 minutes from Bangor, the airport, the malls and the Hollywood Slots.
Come visit - you won't want to leave! |
