Please email us for more pictures (we will respond quickly)

Dating back to the early 1700's this recently refurbished farmhouse is set in an acre of ground and provides a haven of tranquillity within the Normandy countryside. Well appointed ensuite bedrooms, reading area and comfortable lounge are the base for your holiday. Outside, a quiet terrace provides an area to relax, enjoy the views and plan your walks along the sunken lanes of the Bocage landscape. The local area boasts an abundance of wildlife including badgers, deer, hares and even wild boar. Resident birds close to the property include barn owls, woodpeckers and many birds of prey. In addition to rural attractions, the area is close to beaches, beautiful historic towns and has excellent road and rail links. Your hosts Alan and Carol with many years' experience of France will provide you with good food and accommodation plus an insight into the local area. Alan, a qualified historian and keen naturalist can also provide tours that piece together the story of D Day and beyond.

B&B La Chataigneraie
The 2 double bedrooms have recently been refurbished but still retain traditional beamed ceilings and include private ensuite facilities.

Alternatively, family guests may take advantage of a separate Family Suite comprising double and twin bedded rooms with shared bathroom.

Windows open out across adjoining fields, giving views of the Drome Valley and in the distance the ancient forest of St Sever. The bedrooms are separated by a reading area with seating and bookcases and a large window that allows views across cornfields and hedgerows.

At the foot of the staircase is the lounge/dining room where breakfast and evening meals are served.
In times gone by this room was the heart and soul of the house where a farmer's family would live, cook and eat.
Its large traditional fireplace, now with wood-burning stove, traditional windows and oak door add to a sense of the past.

Notes on accommodation
Each double bedroom is equipped with radiators. Both rooms have tea and coffee making facilities and hairdryers.
Although we can recommend a variety of good restaurants within easy reach, we find that after a day's travel or sightseeing most of our guests prefer a relaxing meal in the house.
Guests may request afternoon tea on arrival or a three course evening meal. We serve local fresh and seasonal produce in order to provide the best quality ingredients. Vegetarians are happily catered for. A typical afternoon tea consists of a selection of freshly made sandwiches with salad, scones, home made cakes and a pot of tea or coffee. Price 12 euros pp.
A typical evening meal could be: Home made soup with fresh bread. Coq au vin and seasonal vegetables. Creme brulee with fresh fruit. Complimentary bottle of wine or Normandy cider. Tea or coffee. Price 22 euros pp. Children's prices available on request. Afternoon tea or evening meals require 24 hours' notice.

Outside
The house is set in an acre of land which the owners are currently landscaping. This includes an old well and the remains of a bread oven and pressoir which formerly belonged to the hamlet. There is a small orchard and several flower beds. Outside of the house is a terrace and large pergola with chairs, table and sun loungers for guest use or alfresco dining. The enclosed garden is south facing with wide views of open countryside. A gravelled drive on both sides of the house provides ample parking.

Coast/Beach
The network of major roads provides access to a number of coastal destinations. The D Day landing beaches, Bayeux, Granville, Mont Saint Michel and the Brittany coast are all less than an hour's drive away. The D Day beaches provide displays and museums that tell the story of June
