Faringdon itself is an architectural delight with fine Goergian and Regency buildings dominated by the Folly Tower built in 1935 and standing 104 feet tall. Historically famous for its stand in the Civil War agianst Oliver Cromwell's Roundhead army, the towns role as a market centre can be traced way back to saxon times.
