THE HOUSE: The French call this type of house a Maison de Maitre or Maison Bourgeoise: a stylish architecturally well- built family house in stone, with large rooms, high ceilings and fireplaces. La Maison de Maitre (Manor House) is ideally located at the edge of the peaceful village Saint Paul Lizonne with a landscaped garden (of 4000m2) facing south over rolling countryside with beautiful views.
La Maison aux Volets Verts is centrally located for exploring and househunting in all of the Dordogne, Charente and the Bordeaux region.
THE ROOMS: the 2 rooms are situated in an independent part of the house and have their own private entrance; spacious, bright, comfortable and newly refurbished rooms with en-suite bathroom, high ceilings and quality beds.
The B&BB-concept: Bed & Breakfast Bio, meaning that all our ingredients are fresh and preferable of organic origine.
THE VILLAGE: Saint Paul Lizonne is situated on a little hilltop in the midst of the beautiful rolling countryside of the western part of the Dordogne (24) , the Perigord Vert, with Perigueux as its capital. This region is known as the Tuscany of France. Saint Paul Lizonne is a typical French village with a 12th century Romanesque church, cafe/restaurant and hotel (La Vieille Maison) and above all very friendly rose-loving inhabitants.
The nearest village with more amenities is Saint Severin (2,5 km), which lies in the department Charente (16):
shops,small supermarket, pharmacy, GP, dentist, veterinarian, Hotel and Postoffice. Riberac, 11 km away, is a market town with the largest market in th Dordogne every friday, together with large supermarkets (LeClerc, Intermarche and Lidl) specialist shops. Aubeterre with its monolithic church is only 5 km away; Perigueux at 30 km; Bordeaux is a 1.5 hours drive.
THE SURROUNDINGS: The green, healthy and peaceful countryside of the Perigord Vert (The Green Perigord) with its rolling hills and fields of sunflowers, grazing cows and amazing views and yet all attractive towns nearby.
YOUR HOSTS: a Dutch couple who after a long search fell in love the village and its surroundings, would like to welcome you as their guests at their B&BB. English, French, German and Dutch spoken.

As an hommage to Jane Poupelet
(1874-1932) Sculptor/painter/feminist born and raised at Clauzure part of the commune of Saint Paul Lizonne; apprentice of August Rodin. Her style of figurative sculpture has been described as "La beaute dans la simplicite".
Her sculptures were recently on exhibition in Bordeaux, Musee des Beaux Arts.

Directions
|
| By car:
Tours, Poitiers, Angouleme (at Rochebeaucourt right to) Verteillac. In the village Verteillac: turn right at the church; at the end of this street you will a signpost: Saint Paul Lizonne/Lusignac. Follow further directions to Lusignac. Approximately 2,5 km before Saint Severin a signpost directs you to Saint Paul Lizonne; turn right uphill following directions to Hotel La Vieille Maison. You pass the Hotel on your left and drive several meters further you'll see a "roundabout" i.e. a war-monument with little flaggs;follow the road on the right; in front of you you' ll see La Maison aux Volets Verts (The house with Green Shutters). |
