Dowfold House is a lovely Victorian house in a quiet, rural location with stunning views over the Wear Valley and beyond to Weardale. Built in 1860 for Joseph Pease, local mine owner and first Quaker M.P. the house has some historical interest
We serve afternoon tea in our elegant drawing room. Sit around the log fire on winter evenings. You may wish to select a book or magazine from our library, or watch TV, a video or DVD.
Breakfast is served in the dining room.
We pride ourselves on using only the finest produce, much of it local, including free-range eggs. With a wide variety of breakfast dishes there will be something to suit everyone, from the traditional hearty English Breakfast to a lighter start to the day.
Take a pleasant stroll around our gardens or sit on the patio and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this lovely setting.
If you are feeling slightly more energetic enjoy a game of boules or croquet on the lawn.
Our bedrooms are comfortable and well furnished with double- glazing and central heating. All rooms have TVs, hairdryers and tea and coffee making facilities. Each room has a lovely view over open countryside.
The Pink Room is a pretty double bedroom with a large en-suite bathroom that has a separate shower. Our bathrooms are also furnished with a range of toiletries.
The Green Room is a sunny, freshly refurbished family room, overlooking Crook and the Weardale hills. It can be configured for up to three people, all in full-size single beds. This room now has its own brand new sumptuously equipped ensuite shower room.
The Blue Room is a pretty, large twin bedded room, with stunning views over Weardale. This room has its own private bathroom and white towelling bathrobes are provided for your comfort.
There is plenty of room for off road parking at the front of the house and garage storage for bicycles, or even cars.

Things To Do

| Dowfold House is ideally situated for visiting the Durham Dales - Tynedale, Weardale and Teesdale. Just a 20 minute drive away. Durham City is a world heritage site, famous for its Cathedral, Castle and University.
Dowfold House is at the gateway to Weardale, described as “England’s last wilderness,” and is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Not far away is Teesdale where you can visit High Force, England’s highest waterfall.
As well as these beautiful areas, within a short drive you can visit Beamish Museum or travel on to Newcastle and Gateshead to see the “Blinking Eye Bridge,” The Baltic Art Gallery, The Centre for Life or enjoy the wonderful shopping opportunities at The Metro Centre or Newcastle City Centre.
We welcome tourers, bikers, cyclists and walkers and have all you need to garage your vehicles and/or to dry off, if necessary! |

| | Red Room
The Red Room is a freshly created double bedroom with period furnishing to a high standard. The sumptuous (and bright RED) en-suite shower room has a HUGE (900x1400) shower, incorporating a high-pressure shower. It's a great experience. In the shower room you will find fresh towels and a selection of shower gels and other unguents.
Enjoy the ambience, gaze out over the antics of the sheep in the field over the road, or just relax and watch television.
All our bedrooms are comfortable and well furnished with double-glazing and central heating. They all have TVs, hairdryers and tea and coffee making facilities, with fresh milk available on request.

Directions
|
| From Durham Follow A690 to Crook. Once you pass the “Crook” town name sign, look out for the Colliery Inn on the right. Take the next turning on the right into Low Jobs Hill. Dowfold House is the last house on the left.
Or, from the A68, turn towards Crook at the Fir Tree roundabout, drive through the town, up the hill, and turn left into Low Jobs Hill at the crossroads on the top. Again, Dowfold House is the last house on the left.
