Things To Do
|
| St Lucia and surroundings
This is a basic three day itinerary, now check the activities and make up your own itinerary according to your interests!
1. Crocodile / Hippo Tour
I suggest that you do this trip as soon as possible. It is very informative and gives you a background on St Lucia and the surrounding areas. Information available at the office.
2. Cape Vidal / Mission Rocks
Pack a picnic basket and set aside a full or at least half a day to do this trip but keep in mind, you need sunny weather and no wind. Four of the Big 5.
Mission Rocks : From the Cape Vidal entrance gate you travel 14km where you will find the Mission Rocks turn-off to your right. Lookout point, rock pools, ablution, braai and picnic area.
Cape Vidal : 32km From the entrance gate. Ablution, picnic, braai, swimming, snorkeling, fishing, lookout point and walk along the beach.
REMEMBER : Sun-block, hats and enough fluids
3. Hluhluwe / Umfolozi Game Reserve
On an overcast day the game reserve is the ideal place to visit. Don’t waste your picnic food that you prepared to take to Cape Vidal with you, take it with you to the game reserve. Big 5.
REMEMBER : Animals hide under the trees to get away from the sun. On an overcast day they move around and you can spot them easier.
4. Crocodile farm and Reptile Park
Take ±2 hours out of your day to walk through the park.
Croc-Feeding : Saturday @ 15:00
Wednesday @ 18:30 (summer months only)
Snake-Demo : Saturday @ 14:00
Wednesday @ 18:30 (winter months only)
Times can change : Confirm above demo times when you arrive at the croc centre.
5. Swimming at St Lucia Beach
REMEMBER : As we are situated in a Marine Reserve, our beach is not protected by shark-nets and we have no lifesavers. At times there are extremely strong currents.
6. Walking Trails
There are many walking trails in and around St Lucia. Info on this at the KZN Wildlife office.
7. Night drives
I would suggest a guided night drive that takes you into the Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park. Animals that you could see : leopards, bush baby's, hyenas, genets, hippo and cha- meleons to mention but a few.
Enquire at the office for other tours on offer.
