Surrounded by wonderful scenery, and history, to explore in an area of outstanding natural beauty; and adjacent to the famous Symonds Yat Rock on the outskirts of the Forest of Dean. Just prepare to relax as a warm welcome awaits you at our elegant home. The house is Grade 2 listed and offers a wealth of character and charm; the oldest part of the house is Georgian - not overly large but spacious enough for guests to feel relaxed and comfortable, and especially cosy during the autumn and winter months. You can relax in the interesting award winning garden or our very attractive lounge as well as enjoy the elegant dining room and our wonderful 3 course breakfasts including several types of yummy home made muesli and fruit compotes, bread and preserves. Dinner can be pre-booked by arrangement.
The Guest House has been graded as 4 stars by the AA and has been awarded a Green Business Award and Wildlife Action Award.
For wheelchair users and people with limited mobility, The Lloyd Suite, just off the ground floor hallway, was completely refurbished in 2005 to an extremely high standard and has been awarded a M2 level rating for accessibility for the disabled by the English Tourism Council.
The luscious Lloyd Suite also has a small conservatory leading from the bedroom and overlooks the garden. A special place to relax. The large ensuite bathroom is equipped with toilet for the disabled, shower area and wall seat as well as a spacious bath.
The private Ross Family Suite on the second floor has two adjoining bedrooms to accommodate a family of 5-6, sharing an ensuite and looks onto the Doward. The suite is equipped with TV and DVD as well as traditional past times such as chess and family games as well as a doll’s house.
For the romantics amongst you, the majestic Monmouth Suite, has its own 4 poster bed built on site with a Victorian bathroom complete with a black chandelier..
Besides this we have other spacious bedrooms like the elegant Magnolia Room (double), overlooking our Magnolia Tree, the attractive Doward Room, (Twin) overlooking the Doward alongside Symonds Yat, and the pretty Marstow Room, (double) overlooking farmland at the rear.
With this range of inclusive accommodation Portland House is considered to be one of the best venues for family and group events.

|  | Monmouth Suite
The spacious and luxurious Monmouth Suite is on the first floor of Portland House entered by its own entrance hallway.
Off the hallway is the large egg-shell blue bathroom complete with Victorian style bath and wall and floor tiling. Lie in the bath and let your eyes gaze up at the decadent black chandelier!
The ‘Portland Poster’ stands proudly in the large bedroom – this unique four poster bed with its beautiful blue drapes and gorgeous gold comforter and pillows enfolding you in the large comfy bed.
A seating area contains a rich chocolate Chesterfield to relax upon and watch TV or a DVD whilst enjoying the contents of the service tray after perhaps a good walk!
This suite is a must for couples wanting a romantic interlude and for just enjoying a bit of luxury away from the norm.

On arrival at Portland House your vehicle can drop you right outside the front door. There are no steps either outside or inside to navigate. Your route to The Lloyd Suite is all on one level
The bedroom is spacious and easily accommodates a moving wheelchair. As wellas the large bedroom there is a small conservatory for sitting and looking out over the garden
The Lloyd Suite has a large en-suite bathroom equipped with toilet for the disabled, walk in shower and wall seat as well as a spacious bath.

|  | The Ross Suite
The Ross Suite is a spacious 2 roomed suite on the second floor of Portland House.
It has its own entrance hallway in which is found a small Portland House! (a sweet doll’s house actually with furniture to arrange to the delight usually of young female guests).
With a king size bed in the main room, and 3 single beds in the second bedroom, the suite can cater for a family of 2 adults and three children**.
The main bedroom has a large TV and DVD player, plus a seating area with table for chess or draughts. Other games and puzzles are also provided.
The children’s room has its own TV.
All beds have side tables and personal lights for reading. A service tray in the main room contains kettle, teapot and cups with tea, coffee and hot chocolate, and bottled water. Portland ‘tit bits’ are also provided every day.
The en-suite contains a sink, toilet and shower cubicle.
Both rooms have large double glazed windows which providing lovely views across the Doward.

| DIRECTIONS TO PORTLAND HOUSE
From the South- Come over the one of the Severn Bridges. If you choose the old bridge at Chepstow take the A466 to Monmouth. If you take the new bridge at Junction 24 of the M4 take A40 to Monmouth.
At Monmouth continue on A40 towards Ross on Wye. Approximately 3 miles north you will see a sign for Whitchurch/Symonds Yat WEST on the left hand side. Turn in here. From the West- Take the junction off the M4 for Monmouth and follow the directions above (i.e. from the South).
From the North- AT Ross on Wye take A40 towards Monmouth. Approximately 5 miles south you will see sign for Whitchurch/Symonds Yat WEST (Hedge puzzle etc.) Take that turn off and come over bridge to the other side of A40 (second exit off the small roundabout by the school). As you come down the slip round Look to the left and there are Portland House gates.
