Things To Do
|
| Sandy ocean beaches, walking trails, bicycling, and canoeing on the lake are all nearby. Port Maitland Beach Provincial Park is just two miles away and is one of the warmest, most beautiful sand beaches in Nova Scotia.
In nearby Yarmouth (9 miles), visitors can browse museums, which depict a local seafaring history, shop local galleries and emporiums, sample fresh seafood in one of many restaurants, or simply stroll along the waterfront. Cape Forchu Lighthouse, located at Yarmouth Bar, is a popular attraction, which is open seasonally to the public.
We are close to activities such as whale-watching, deep sea fishing, movie and dinner theatres. Drive 80 miles northeast, and you will stumble upon Annapolis Royal, the oldest surviving settlement in North America. Along Highway 1, you will find the largest wooden structure in North America, and closer to Churchill Mansion, you will see Canada's smallest drawbridge in the fishing community of Sanford. In nearby Clare, experience the French culture, a community very much alive with stories of both past and present.
With the arrival of spring, Home and Garden shows abound. Outdoor markets, along with museums, seasonal shops and Parks, all open their doors.
Local towns and rural settlements host various festivals and events, which celebrate individual, unique cultures. Parks, Forts, and public Gardens offer hours of affordable fun. Small town Fairs, Carnivals and Cultural Exhibitions are popular among families with children.
Harvest Festivals and similar celebrations continue throughout the autumn months. Many local attractions and activities thrive during this colourful time of year. Maritime foliage is like no other; nothing less than spectacular. Farmers markets offer more than feasts from the gardens and orchards. Many offer unique country gift items handcrafted by local artisans.
Nova Scotians are fiercely proud of their heritage and culture, and even prouder to share it with visitors and travelers. The diverse culture of the land and its people offers memorable experiences to both young and young at heart. From the expanse of the valley fields, to the perimeters of our vast oceans, we welcome you to Canada's Ocean Playground.
