Things To Do
|
| Exceeding your expectations.
*****We didn't realize the water is actually at the bottom of your drive! Being able to walk to the Ferry and enjoy a choice of restaurants in Whitianga within minutes of leaving the lodge was amazing!
*****We loved not having to drive everywhere and being so close to Hot Water Beach and Hahei is fantastic. The best of both sides of the harbour! Thanks for the towels, spades and beach chairs. Watching people from all around the world dig in the sand was almost as much fun as digging for the hot water ourselves.
*****Views of Whitianga, lush native bush, a beautiful garden setting and if that wasn't enough, the taste of freshly grown tomatoes, lettuce and zuccinis from your veggie garden was simply out of this world. Pity the birds got to the boysenberries first! However the lemons came in useful.
*****Really enjoyed Rob's guided tour of the Maori Pa site next door and his help with the correct pronunciation of Maori place names made our visit to NZ and especially The Coromandel so special. His family history is amazing. We enjoyed hearing about the interesting history of the area and comparing the old photos with the present day Hahei. Also walking to beautiful Cathedral Cove and Hahei beach was unforgettable.
*****Thank you so much for those wonderful breakfasts, muffin bread and delicious jams. Your warm hospitality surpassed any other B&B we stayed at. tripadvisor comments all true. Thank you.
*****We read about you on tripadvisor and everything we read about Ferry Landing Lodge is true. Unbelievable, generous hospitality and such a convenient location! Thanks for everything.
Enjoy freshly baked muffin bread with a choice of Pam’s special jams on arrival. Plan enough days to see Hot water beach, Hahei Marine Reserve, Cathedral Cove, Cooks beach AND take the 2 seater kayak & dinghy out in the harbour and try your hand at fishing. Mountain bikes; beach towels, chairs, spades, umbrellas all included in your tariff

Directions
|
| From Auckland Airport As you leave the airport, head towards Manukau City where you join the Southern Motorway (State Highway 1). Head south for about 20 mins, to the junction of SH 2 at the bottom of the Bombay Hill. Take SH 2 east for about 20 mins then turn off to SH 25 towards Thames and the Coromandel Peninsular. Across the plains to the one lane Kopu Bridge, (just South of Thames). Turn right at Kopu (Mobil Service station). Travel 1 km south, then turn left onto Highway 25A. Travel over the mountains to Tairua. At Tairua there is a great lookout point at Mt Paku which overlooks the estuary entrance. Just turn right after you cross the bridge at Tairua and you can take your car almost to the top of the mountain. (Paku is Maori for a woman’s breasts so I guess you will know what to look for??) Through Tairua, then over Tairua hill (Highway 25). You will see 2 Kauri trees on the 3rd sharp left corner going up the hill. These are babies at about 100 years old. There are others you may visit while here at 600 yrs old and up north the oldest is 3000 yrs old. Another look out point is at the top of Tairua Hill. Don’t miss the turn off 300m past Whenuakite School, turn right onto Hotwater Beach Rd (Dalmeny Corner). Travel 3 km’s then turn left into Purangi Rd. (Sign-posted Cook’s Beach, Ferry Landing). Stay on this road, past Hahei turn off, past Cook’s Beach turn-off, through Flaxmill Bay to Ferry Landing. Just past the Ferry Landing Store, take the narrow lane on the left and drive all the way to the end of the road and onto our concrete driveway. We are the last house up the driveway on your right there is room to turn your car around at the end.
