| Moulin de Pierretoune is a beautiful 16th century watermill in the heart of the Basque country. Located in wonderfully peaceful countryside, yet only 30 minutes from the sea and the popular seaside resort of Biarritz. The mill has 4 bedrooms sleeping a maximum of 8 plus 1 baby (cot provided). There are 3 double bedrooms and 1 twin bedroom. The mill was newly refurbished in 2006. There is a large living/dining room with fireplace, a well equipped kitchen and a utility room with washer and dryer. There is a bathroom and separate WC on the 1st floor of the house and a 2nd WC on the ground floor. The living room doors (3) lead out onto the large shady terrace where the river flows below. The mill has 5 acres of riverside gardens. There is a rattan sofa and armchairs on the terrace as well as a large table and benches for dining. Also, there are 4 steamerchairs for sunbathing/relaxing and a shaded swing seat. The terrace leads out onto a long island garden where the river flows either side. There is also a very long grassy riverbank to the other side of the property, perfect for picnics. The mill is situated in a small hamlet just outside the Basque village of La Bastide Clairence, voted one of the most beautiful villages in France. There are lamas and donkeys in the surrounding fields as well as horses in the opposite field who come down to the river in our front garden to drink daily! Kingfishers, grey wagtails, woodpeckers, numerous butterflies and several different kinds of birds of prey can all be spotted whilst relaxing on the terrace. The garden has a tropical feel, containing banana trees, calla lilies, hydrangea bushes, wisteria, grape vines, plane trees, palms, willows, magnolia trees and others too numerous to mention. |

Things To Do
| The Basque coastline is famous worldwide for its excellent surfing conditions. International surf competitions take place at Biarritz, Hossegor, Anglet and also just across the Spanish border in Mundaka. There are miles and miles of beautiful sandy beaches. The Basque countryside is equally beautiful and very popular with walkers. Kayaking and white water rafting are possible on the nearby river Nive, there are numerous excellent golf courses, including the oldest in continental Europe in Pau. There are also several good ski resorts in the nearby Pyrenees, our closest being an hour away.

Directions
| The mill is just 25 minutes from Biarritz airport and 45 minutes from Pau airport. There are also Bilbao and Bordeaux airports close by. Take exit 4 'Urt' on the A64 motorway and follow all signs to La Bastide Clairence village. Our key holder and cleaner, Ghislaine Potentier, lives on the village square. You will see her name on the front of her house as she is also a mosaic artist. Ghislaine will then take you to the mill, just a short drive outside the village. |
