It is within a comfortable driving distance to many well known destinations such as Sun Coast Casino, Sibaya Casino, Ushaka, Marine World, Gateway & Pavilion Shopping centres. Durban is a major gateway to Africa & is the largest port city on the continent.
There are restaurants, 2 golf courses, waterworld, shopping centres, an entertainment centre with ten pin bowling, sports facilities & a main beach. There is a walkway for skating, jogging & cycling, a weekly night market, flea market, canoeing & pedal boats on the lagoon & so much more. To the south of Durban lies the famed Paradise of the Zulu kingdom – the South Coast. This holiday heaven with wide golden beaches, warm waters of the Indian Ocean & bordered by green hills attracts scores of repeat visitors to its many small, scenic towns & villages. The subtropical weather encourages the growth of abundant foliage & colourful blooms, also named the Hibiscus Coast – given the colour, variety & abundance of attractions found here.
An annual feature is the well documented sardine run – the greatest shoal on earth – which sees billions of small silvery fish winding their way along the coastline, pursued by thousands of dolphins, game fish, sharks & swirling, diving sea birds. It is one of only two places on the globe that is host to such a phenomenon. Whale watching during the winter months enjoys growing popularity, with a host of charters providing close up views, drawing visitors from many parts of the world. Fall into open air with breathless excitement as you jump from the world’s highest gorge swing at Oribi Gorge.
Five beaches have been awarded BLUE FLAG status, attesting to their high standards of safety, cleanliness, availability of services & environmental management. All swimming beaches are protected by shark nets & many have professional lifeguards in attendance.
It is with good reason that the South Coast has become one of South Africa’s most popular holiday spots, as it offers the perfect combination of natural beauty, fabulous climate & a carnival atmosphere.
