| La Maison des Lys built in 1817 is 200 yards from the central square in Valence sur Baïse, a bastide village dating from 1274 standing above the River Baïse and 8 km from the Armagnac market town of Condom. Three large bedrooms each with modern bath or shower rooms provide comfortable accommodation. In summer breakfast is served in the shade of the garden's east-facing terrace which is built into the town's ancient ramparts. Orange juice, fruits of the season, farm eggs with crusty French bread, baked fresh in Valence's artisan bakers, croissants, creamy butter and home-made jams. A cafetière of coffee, a pot of tea or hot chocolate help start the day. Historical sites abound, there are delightful little towns and villages and tours of the local wineries and Armagnac distilleries, fields full of sunflowers and vines. Numerous sports activities are within a short drive and there are day and night markets, fêtes, festivals, vide-greniers, feasts and wine tastings throughout the summer. |

| Sports available include: Swimming, golf, walking, cycling, horse riding, tennis, canoeing and fishing, adventure sports, gliding and flying as well as local games like quilles and palet Gascon. For spectators there is top class rugby, motor racing, horse racing and bull fights. There are plenty of other activities such as spa centres, river cruises, a casino, the Walibi theme park, daily markets and summer night markets, music festivals, vide-greniers and antique markets, flower festivals and gardens.
