Rhian Guest House

Originally a gamekeeper’s cottage, Rhian is totally non-smoking and set in over 30 acres of private grounds where peace, quiet and comfort are assured.

Our cosy double, twin and family rooms all have tea and coffee-making facilities and either an en-suite shower or private shower room.

The cottage nestles at the foot of Ben Loyal and the two guests’ lounges provide panoramic views of this Queen of Scottish Mountains. The TV lounge has a peat/log fire in winter and our centrally heated conservatory provides comfortable bird-watching facilities and a quiet place for reading while (on winter nights at least) watching the Northern Lights and shooting stars. Books, cards and board games are available, as is internet access either wirelessly or via our desktop pc.

Tongue (in the heart of Mackay country) is situated on the North Coast of the beautiful Scottish Highlands; midway between Cape Wrath and John O’Groats, and also between the challenging golf links at Durness and Reay. Ben Hope (Scotland’s most northerly Munro) is nearby, and the spectacular hill-climb up Ben Loyal (2,700 ft) starts just 5 minutes away.

Things To Do
Bird and wildlife watchers are well catered for and need not travel far from Rhian to enjoy their hobby. Buzzards, pheasants, curlews, owls, goldcrests, cuckoos, wrens and many others are regularly seen (or heard) from and in our gardens. Red, roe and muntjac deer, otters and pine-martens have also been spotted nearby. The Rhian Burn (on our boundary) can be fished for trout, and river and loch fishing permits may be arranged locally. Other activities available in the area include horse riding on idyllic beaches, ceilidh dancing classes, swimming pool and leisure centre, island boat trips, photographic safaris, craft shops, Strathnaver Museum (Clan Mackay room) and historical walks to trace the Clearances.
