| Mountain Bay is situated opposite Harbour Island in Gordon’s Bay, a picturesque seaside village situated between the beautiful Hottentots Holland Mountain Range and the famous False Bay coastline. Gordon’s Bay has lovely white beaches including the famous “Bikini Beach” an International Blue Flag beach. There are many excellent restaurants in Gordon’s Bay serving varied menus including delicious fresh seafood. There is a wonderful second-hand bookshop which stays open till late at night and a delightful curio shop. Boat trips and deep sea fishing charters can be booked at the 2 harbours whilst Great White Shark cage diving can be arranged at Gansbaai another seaside village just over an hour’s drive away. Nearby excursions include a trip to Hermanus along some of the most beautiful coastal roads in the world. Or take a drive over the scenic Sir Lowry’s Pass taking in breathtaking views of the Hottentots Holland mountains, the Helderberg and False Bay. Caledon with its famous hot water springs and casino is also well worth a visit and the scenery en route is spectacular. Gordon’s Bay is only 30 minutes from the famous wine routes of Stellenbosch and Paarl. |

Things To Do

| Although Gordon's Bay is a small seaside village, it boasts at least 12 restaurants, 2 to 3 coffee shops and an internet cafe.
The restaurants cater for all tastes; on the beachfront is the very popular Italian restaurant "Al Forno's" as well as Indigo's, the Spur and Talla's Tavern to mention but a few, at the old harbour is "The Tavern" which serves the most delectable pork ribs and Harbour Lights, an upmarket restaurant serving delicious fresh seafood, Harbour Island boasts a Greek restaurant "Starfish" right on the edge of the waterfront; the famous Bertie's restaurant and Antonio's.
The Villa Via Hotel at Harbour Island serves a lovely Sunday buffet for only R69.95 per head. After lunch relax with a drink on the beautiful promenade in front of the hotel.
Or for a change, buy the most delicious fish and chips from the ever popular "Ooskus" Fisheries or hamburgers etc from the T-Junction take-aways and sit in your car at the viewing point above the old harbour enjoying the stunning views or watching the whales, in season.
For the young or the young at heart Cafe Amsterdam provides live music most nights during the season and stays open till late.
There is an outstanding second-hand bookshop with literally thousands of books to choose from which stays open till late at night and a delightful curio shop.
From Gordon's Bay take the R44 to Hermanus travelling along some of the most beautiful coastal roads in the world. You will pass Koggel Bay, (a beautiful beach suitable for swimming and surfing), Pringle Bay; Rooi-Els and Kleinmond. During the months of July - November enjoy watching the many whales in this area, some coming as close as 10 metres to the shore.
Or else travel over the Sir Lowry's Pass taking in breathtaking views of the Hottentots Holland mountains, the Helderberg and False Bay. Passing the Steenbras River Dam along the way, make your way to Grabouw, the heart of South Africa's apple orchards. Along the way, you can stop at "The Orchard" which serves fantastic omelettes and delicious tea and scones or at Peregrines a fantastic farm stall selling delicious breads, jams, cakes, etc. They also have a restaurant specialising in home-cooked fares.
