The Green Tree Guest Cottages is situated on a working dairy farm, centrally located to visit the Addo Elephant park with the Magnificent Elephants (and Big 7) to see, Schotia Safari’s, where you get up close and personal with The Lion, Amakhala Game Reserve, for Big 5 Game Viewing, the Frontier Country filled with history and the beautiful unspoilt beaches and moving Sandunes of the Sunshine Coast. ( Within 10 - 25 min radius from all.) The cottages started when the potential was realized in the safe and central location of our farm, for visits to the Game Reserves around us, and for the joy of sharing good food and great accommodation with friends all over the globe. Two farm buildings was transformed into three cozy, luxury cottages, which became so popular with guest, that a 4th was quickly on its way. We invite you to enjoy farm life, where you can still see the stars at night, have time to spend with family and friends, enjoy good game viewing, sun & sea, with quality personal service - We would love to welcome you as our guest at The Green Tree Cottages.
We offer bed & breakfast and self-catering accommodation, at The Green Tree Cottages. Awards: Our 4 Cottages are graded with 4 stars by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa, Superior Accommodation by the AA and was a Finalist in the 2008 AA American Express Accommodation Awards Category Farm Stay.
ROOMS AND FASCILITIES / All four the cottages are very spacious, beautifully decorated, all with own entrance, private patios and barbeque facilities. The cottages are tastefully furnished with Cape cottage furniture and a hint of Africa, with rich earthy colors, to create a tasteful Southern African interior, which gives you the warmth that only farm life can offer. All the rooms has, air-conditioners, Television/ DSTV, Mini Bars, Tea and Coffee Facilities, Towels, bathrobes, hairdryers and swimming towels to ensure a most comfortable stay.
DINING / If the cottages are booked on a Bed and breakfast basis, a healthy breakfast is served in the Inviting Dining room by Lezl, who prepares all meals her self and well known for her great cooking. Should you wish to leave early or want to picnic at the Addo Elephant Park, a breakfast basket can also be supplied. Light Suppers are served by prior arrangement, on the veranda of your cottage, where you can enjoy watching the magnificent sunsets and listen to the chatter of the guiniefowl. Suppers normally consist of true South African dishes, such as Bobotie, Homade Chicken Pie, Tomato Stew (Tamatie Bredie) and fresh garden Salad plus something sweet.
SELF-CATERING guest can get wood on the farm as well as braai baskets (by prior arrangement) should they wish to braai. All other produce can be bought from the Spar grocer store at Colchester. Colchester also has a cosy restaurant, which is popular for their steaks. For Lunches, or tee time treats, the Nanga Farm stall is the place to be, 13 km from us.

Things To Do

| THINGS TO DO / Relaxing, take full advantage of our South African weather and sunbath around our swimming pool on those warm summer days, or simply catch up on your reading (and napping!) time under the trees of our lush, peaceful garden. Children can explore the farm, make use of the mountain bikes, or have fun on the trampoline and swings.
HIKING AND SIGHT SEEING / Guest are also welcome to take a walk to the dairy and see how the cows are milked, on your way you will also see some chickens and sheep. If you enjoy walking, you can explore the farm, for the area is the natural habitat for bushbuck , kudu, duiker and porcupine. You also have a good chance to see monkeys in the fields. If time allows it, you might get lucky and get a night drive, and see the thousands of Springhare around - (they look like mini-kangaroo!) The Woody Cape Nature reserve and forest close to Alexandria (part of the Addo Park) is also a gem to visit for the Nature Enthusiast.
For the bird lover, there is also plenty of bird life around the farm or you can visit the Nukakamma Canoe trail (26 km), and do bird watching from a Canoe on the Sundays River, or take a walk along the beach at Colchester and see the beautiful moving sand dunes of the Eastern Cape.

All four the cottages are very spacious, all with own entrance, veranda and barbeque facilities. "The Porcupine Cottage" (Cottage No 1) is the Family Room with one double bed and two single beds for children. The bathroom consists of a bath and shower, done in stone to give it that earthy, organic feel. All the Rooms have clock radios, television, ceiling fans, bar fridges with condiments, and hairdryers. "The Springbuck Cottage" (Cottage No 2) has a double bed, and extra single bed(s) are available, should they be required. It is the only cottage with its own fully equipped kitchen. The bathroom is en-suite and consists of large shower, toilet and basin. The room has dining table, lounge area and honesty bar. "The Bushuck Cottage" (Cottage No 3) is also a double room with en-suite wet room (huge shower). Both cottages have a lovely view, and from the patio you can see guinea fowl and farm animals in the fields and enjoy the calm of the Eastern Cape sunsets. “The Kudu Cottage” (Cottage 4) is the room with twin beds, if needed they are done as King-size. The cottage also has an en-suite bathroom with shower, and as all the other cottages, gives you enough space, to ensure a very comfortable stay. All the cottages are tastefully furnished with Cape cottage furniture and a hint of Africa to create a tasteful southern African interior. The Green Tree’s facilities and the warm hospitality given by Johan & Lezl make this a lovely home experience away from home. Lezl serves hearty Farm style breakfasts in the spacious and inviting private dining room. Dinner is also available by prior arrangement. | From Port Elizabeth follow the N2 highway in the direction of Grahamstown. At Nanaga 48km out of Port Elizabeth, take the R72 in the Direction of Port Alfred. Drive for 12 km and you will find our signpost on the left - hand side of the road. |
